YuE2 vs. Suno V6: The Open-Weight AI Music Model With Editable Scores

September 19, 2026 - Ai ganeration music

YuE2 changes AI music generation by inserting something most commercial platforms keep hidden: an editable musical score.

Instead of turning a prompt directly into finished audio, YuE2 can first create a melody-and-chord plan in ABC notation. The musician can inspect that plan, change the notes or harmony, and then render it as a complete song with vocals and accompaniment.

In this explainer, we examine:

• How YuE2 compares with Suno on WildSongBench
• Why symbolic planning breaks open the AI “black box”
• How ABC notation makes AI compositions editable
• Editing melodies and chords inside ComfyUI
• Turning reference audio into editable musical plans
• Zero-shot covers and style transformations
• Whether this technology replaces musicians—or becomes another serious production tool

The developers report a 6.9632 WildSongBench score for YuE2’s best-of-eight setting, compared with 6.8721 for Suno V5 and 6.5562 for Suno V6. That is a benchmark result, not a universal declaration that one system sounds better in every situation.

Correction: The model is properly named YuE2, not UA2 or UE2. Its official release is YuE2-3B. The standard unquantized installation currently lists a 24 GB VRAM requirement; lower-memory community implementations may vary.

What matters more to you: the final sound quality, or the ability to get inside the composition and change it?

THE AUTHOR IN THE MACHINE
https://moprh.substack.com/s/the-author-in-the-machine

I am openly AI-forward in both creative work and business. Generative AI, agentic systems, automation, and other emerging technologies are tools I use deliberately—not something I hide, apologize for, or pretend played no role in the work.

I have been working with generative and autonomous AI tools since 2022, using them alongside traditional creative, analytical, technical, and business processes. The point is not to remove the human from the work. It is to see what becomes possible when the human learns how to use the machine well.

The Author in the Machine is where I write about that relationship: AI-assisted creativity, practical workflows, experimentation, authorship, business applications, and the increasingly strange cultural arguments surrounding all of it.
